College Counseling Services by Grade Level
9th Grade
- In September Freshmen will receive an orientation/tour that covers a range of topics. During that presentation, we talk about how to access Springwater resources, how to get involved in and out of school, the importance of maintaining good grades and discuss college/ post-secondary plans in the context of the high school experience.
- During the spring semester, the counselor visits freshman classes during forecasting to discuss their 4-year-high-school-plan and to plan for the following year.
- We take at least one all school college visit each school year providing Springwater students 4 opportunities to be on college campuses.
10th Grade
- Sophomores take the PSAT in October during the school day. This is a practice SAT.
- During the spring semester, the counselor visits sophomore classes during forecasting. Sophomores have several options during their junior year ( CAL, MHCC Middle College). These options and the applications process is explained in detail. Sophomores are highly encouraged and given resources and expected to be involved in an extracurricular activity.
- We take at least one all school college visit each school year providing Springwater students 4 opportunities to be on college campuses.
11th Grade
- Juniors will take the PSAT in October during school. This is a practice SAT.
- A financial aid presentation focusing on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is given in September.
- In the spring we begin having individual college/ post-secondary counseling appointments with students and their parents to begin this process.
- We take at least one all school college visit each school year providing Springwater students 4 opportunities to be on college campuses.
12th Grade
- In the fall senior meetings are scheduled with seniors and their parents to discuss the applications process, scholarships and graduation.
- Aspire - Students are encouraged t sign up for the Aspire program and engage with a volunteer post-secondary planning mentor.
- Throughout senior year, counseling appointments are available to students on an as-needed basis (we encourage frequent meetings).
- Periodic meetings are scheduled with the senior social studies classes to discuss varied topics and time-sensitive information.
- In September, we offer a financial aid presentation focusing on completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
